Rick Stolp, Ph.D. - Passionate Relationships, Excellent Psychology

Is it time to take a new direction in life? Depressed? Grieving over a personal illness? Feel trapped in your life? Not doing what makes you happy? Self-defeating? Low self-esteem? Fight with your spouse? Grieving over the loss of a loved one? Worried about losing your job? Not eating? Not sleeping? Just plain scared?

Free yourself from old ways of thinking and relating and move on to a new direction in life.

By helping you learn to know yourself, truly know yourself, and by learning to better understand your close relationships, my intent is to enable you to appreciate all of the riches already around you. You can learn to take pleasure in simply being who you are. You can learn how to have the relationship of your dreams.

Welcome! This website is designed to give you some general information about my private practice and the educational workshops that my wife, Sherry and I present nationally. I have been in private practice for over twenty years. I am trained as a clinical psychologist, and have specialized in the area of relationship counseling. My services include marital and/or couples therapy, pre-marital counseling, and life transitions counsel. I also provide services for general psychological problems such as depression, anxiety, and grief. Though folks usually see me about their problems, I am usually focused on solutions, growth, change, connection and healing. My intent is to offer people a safe place where they can understand themselves better, have the relationships they want and make the changes they desire.

One weekend could put the fire back in your relationship.

My wife, Sherry, and I have been presenting the Getting the Love You Want workshops for couples since 1992. The workshop is based on Harville Hendrix's best selling book Getting the Love You Want. The workshop is designed help couples rediscover the joy, safety and passion of their committed relationship. It is also a great way to prepare for a committed partnership or marriage. Many folks who have come through the workshop end up offering the workshop to their children who are preparing for marriage! You can read more about the workshop by clicking on the Workshop button to your left.

In addition to the couples weekends, my colleague, Judy Christopher, and I provide intensive weekend workshops for individuals (single or married) in order to help folks live with more life, spontaneity, and courage and have more meaningful relationships. Judy and I co-lead several ongoing groups for couples and individuals.

Creating a passion for Living, Loving and Laughing

Imago Relationship Therapy - getting to the source, healing your life.

Though I have trained and utilize various approaches, I work primarily as an Imago Therapist. In Imago therapy, you uncover the past hurts which still influence your life today. You survived these hurts by adopting certain defenses. And while these defenses may have saved you from pain years ago, now they are limiting your life - they're actually causing you pain. My desire is to help you grow beyond your hurts and defenses allowing you to be freer and to have more options and joy in your life. (You can read more about Imago relationship therapy in the books: Getting the Love You Want and Keeping the Love you Find both by Dr. Harville Hendrix, PhD.) and by linking to this website:
